SurfLaLibertad Tours was born out of Salvadorans traveling surfers that rid waves in spots located in California, Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, and other well known surf regions of the Americas, and realized that the waves were no better than those they were riding down here in El Salvador, un-crowded and warmed watered year round.

An issue has been made about the safety situation in El Salvador. Publicity of the civil war (1980-1992) and gang problems gave El Salvador the reputation of a violent country taking the crowds to Costa Rica and leaving our waves practically virgin. Peace was signed 14 years ago, and most of the gang members are in jail under the “Super mano dura” law (Super firm hand). Salvadoran people are friendly, and more than happy of having tourists helping the development of the country. Having said that, SurfLaLibertad Tours takes the issue of safety seriously.
